About the Professional Cleaning Standards Association

While many businesses operate with structure and care, there has historically been no shared standard to clearly define or distinguish professional practices. Without clear standards, the actions of informal operators can shape perceptions of the entire industry, including businesses that operate professionally and with documented systems. Certification exists to provide a way for businesses that want to distinguish their practices to do so through alignment with a defined professional standard and, certification.

The Professional Cleaning Standards Association was created to address this gap. PCSA is an independent standards and certification body that defines clear, practical expectations for residential cleaning businesses, commercial cleaning businesses, and solo cleaning operators, that provides a shared reference point for both businesses and the public.

By establishing recognizable standards and supporting ongoing alignment, PCSA provides a clear reference point for professionalism, consistency, and accountability within the cleaning industry.

Benefits of PCSA Certification

1. Stand out as a professionally run business

Just as businesses communicate that they are insured, licensed, and bonded, PCSA certification serves as a professional standard clients can recognize and trust.

PCSA certification demonstrates that a cleaning business operates with structure, consistency, and accountability.

2. Support stronger pricing

Professional cleaning is physically demanding, labor-intensive work that requires systems, consistency, and accountability.

The PCSA advocates for higher professional standards and helps reinforce the value of professionally operated cleaning businesses.

3. Be part of setting the standard

Members play a role in shaping and strengthening the perceived professionalism of the cleaning industry.

4. Differentiate from informal operators

The cleaning industry includes many businesses operating without clear standards or systems.

PCSA certification helps distinguish businesses that are committed to professionalism, accountability, and structured operations.

5. Builds client trust

Clients increasingly look for businesses that appear professional, reliable, and well-organized.

PCSA certification helps communicate a commitment to operational standards, consistency, and professional business practices.
